The Resource Centre is a music project conceived in 2009 by Birmingham based artist John Hanson, his previous explorations in sound include work with Rocket Science, Tape Recorder, Magnetophone and Distich. John Hanson is Influenced by experimental electronic artists engaged in educational work, such as Gunild Keetman and Carl Orff who developed the Orff Method and Daphne Oram who designed a drawn sound technique named Oramics.
The Resource Centre is named after a service that provides individuals who have learning difficulties with specialised equipment and resources. The music project was conceived after John Hanson, who having worked over a number of years within the educational field, chromatically archived educational instruments sourced from the centre and recorded them in a venue designed for music classes. Music by The Resource Centre is largely without beats with the emphasis on harmony and composition. The music often involves variations in rhythmic patterns and created partially from automatic and generative systems that make use of sounds from predominantly mallet instruments. The sounds are processed electronically, creating simple and beautiful musical forms.
